“Firty-free Helephants, Oom!”

Published on May 2023
R99,00
Mike Nunan, former maths teacher, bank manager, athletics administrator and Green Number Comrades runner (11 runs completed), has spent the past 20 years of his life managing game lodges throughout Southern Africa - as far afield as Tanzania and Botswana. He grew up in the frontier bush environment of Northern Botswana, which instilled in him a deep love and respect for nature, wildlife and conservation. He has combined his skills as a keen observer, both of his natural surroundings and his fellow man, and as a fireside raconteur of note to produce this wonderful collection of reflections, stories (both humourous and tragic) and reminiscences of his life in the bush, both as a child and later as a Lodge manager and safari guide. He is obviously a deep thinker, and many of his stories reflect the philosophising that must have taken place at dawn, while sipping on his gallon mug of tea, on many a lodge and cottage veranda across the southern part of our continent. As you read the book, you can picture Mike holding forth to guests from all over the world around the fire in the boma. A worthy read, indeed!

A Taste of St Francis

R79,00
The two original books are combined into one - “A Taste of St Francis”, and it is a faithfull reproduction of the content of the originals. However, instead of the quaint original typewritten (on an IBM golfball typewriter, Yvonne informs us) and photocopied booklets, the book is professionally typeset, printed and bound, with a full colour, original art cover by artist Wendy Barker.

A Terrible Beauty

Published on May 2023

A chilling detective story that is both clever and sophisticated, A Terrible Beauty draws the reader into the mystery that is Ireland – in both its beauty and its terror. An Attempt to Overcome Challenges

R99,00
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet — a vast army. Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off’. Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord’.” (Ezekiel 37: 1 - 14).

Brave Kaya

Published on May 2023
R69,00
Kaya’s story is a reminder that there is still room for love, self-belief, family and equal opportunity. There is a hero inside all of us and it starts with saying “no” to doubt and “yes” to courage. In this very short story, we see a brave little girl insisting on being given the same opportunities as her peers to grow into a leader, and her story becomes the voice of special young people everywhere.

China in Africa the Zambia Story

Published on May 2023
R99,00
Ambassador Anthony Mukwita breaks into tiny bits an issue of global interest that would have ordinarily been complex to digest by ordinary readers. Readers keen to know how China won the hearts of Africans and African leaders through soft power to ostensibly topple the United States and its allies from the age-old top slot will love it. Ambassador Mukwita dives into the history of Zambia and its people, how they laugh and cry to make global sense. It is a no holds barred tale that does not flatter China or the Zambian hosts as the two jostle to co-exist in an ever-evolving geopolitical world. Momentarily, irate Zambians angered by Chinese employers kill the investor, next Chinese investors shoot in cold blood to death, Zambian workers. There is blood, tears and joy written on several pages. It reveals the 'sensitive' diplomatic relationship Zambia 'enjoys' with China and the relationship Zambia 'enjoys' with the USA. It 's an economic, political, and international relations account. It is about the war between the United States and China on African soil. The Thucydides trap.

The book was carefully crafted to not just stimulate young people’s interest in areas of investments, debt management, insurance, and entrepreneurship but also to act as a big brother; forewarning them of some of the possible fundamental financial pitfalls awaiting them. The text does not simply present financial products, it also gives a concise glimpse of how such products come about, in a simple understandable manner, allowing the reader to later engage with such products with an elevated degree of confidence emanating from an enlightened position. In Quiet Realm

Published on May 2023
R99,00
In Quite Realm evinces pride, respect, despair, joy and profound sadness. It remembers and salutes past and contemporary South Africans, it lauds them as Africans: “These are Africans”, it says. It is a recognition that “Life Happens”, especially in our townships, and is a tribute to life’s virtues. It reflects the author’s deep and abiding faith, and, “In the End”, it forces us to confront our own mortality. An emotional and satisfying read. In this elegant, compact and complex poetry book, Father Lawrence tenderly yet determinedly escorts us through a fantastic maze of his journeys - spiritual, political and social.- Ambassador Lindiwe Mabuza - Diplomat, Poet, Academic, Cultural Activist. “This is a homage to the spirit and soul of our birth, the glories, the dilemma and the blessings of the sun and soil of the mother country… Father Lawrence would have us remember to hold close in our minds and hearts all that we are, all that has made us, and all that we are empowered to be.” - Jessye Norman - 5 times Grammy Award-Winning Opera Star.

Ude wayophula nkabi, kwakukudala kakade ndisithi ‘buya ekamereni kwa-Avbob Poetry uze kumakhwenkwe amakhulu’. Phantse yonke le mibongo iyimvula-mehlo, sisikhalo, kukophela ngaphakathi kwembongi ze kuphile omameleyo xa imbongi iziphalaza. Injalo ke inkokeli, kufa mnye kuphile baninzi. Jim is Tired of Jo’burg

R99,00
Reminiscent of Peter Abrahams’ Mine Boy, Jim is Tired of Jo’Burg exposes the reader to the challenges of urban and rural life in the South Africa of the time. Through pathos, joviality, the author takes us down the memory lane of life in the townships of South Africa in the 60s and 70s, and the choice that its people had to take – to be an urbanite or ruralite.

Just Kidding!

Published on May 2023
R109,00
When Sally Ann (Sal) Carter – a social worker – and her husband David – a corporate accountant – decided to abandon the bright lights of Cape Town on David’s retirement and go olive farming, some of their friends thought they were mad. Others envied them! In this collection of anecdotes, stories and vignettes, Sal Carter has captured the joys, sadnesses, trials, tribulations and triumphs of their 20 years on Zeekoegat Farm, just outside the small town of Riversdale, in a most enjoyable and very readable way. Her descriptions of the characters and antics of their large and ever-increasing collection of farm animals and pets, especially her beloved goats and dogs, are as enjoyable and real as her stories of the interactions and relationships with their neighbours, staff, friends, family and the people of the town and the surrounding area. Sal describes her forays into goat-milking, animal midwifery, cheese making, event organising and social work in an often self-deprecating and tongue-in-cheek way, sparing no-one, least of all herself. Shining through it all is the support, guidance and love of her sometimes long-suffering husband, David. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
