Frank Nunan

Frank Nunan is a journalist and editor by profession who received his initial journalistic training in the then Rhodesia on the Bulawayo Chronicle. He has also worked on South African newspapers such as The Star and the Sunday Times, and was active in the marketing and IT fields for many years after leaving journalism.
After moving to the Eastern Cape from Johannesburg in 2011, he launched SA Catholic Online in 2013 as a Catholic internet resource, and simultaneously began his publishing facilitation business, offering proofreading editing and self-publishing services to Catholic authors. This was expanded to the secular world in 2016 with the launch of Write-On Publishing.
He has to date published more than 130 books, including more than 35 Catholic books or books by Catholic authors.
His association with Radio Veritas extends to a weekly 10-minute slot in which he mainly discusses the Church’s use of the internet and suggests various websites and other online resources for listeners.
He was active in the affairs of his then home parish, the Kouga Catholic Community of Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp and St Francis Bay in the Diocese of Port Elizabeth, where he has been Parish Council chairman, as well as Parish Secretary. Both he and his wife Sylvia are Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist - Frank celebrated his 30th anniversary as a Eucharistic Minister in October 2021 - and he is also a Proclaimer and Liturgical Leader, conducting Communion Services for his community in the absence of a priest.
He and Sylvia have one son, Ryan, who lives in New Zealand with his wife Elaine and two little boys, Liam and Torben. Frank & Sylvia are now living in New Zealand with the family.

A Taste of St Francis

R79,00
The two original books are combined into one - “A Taste of St Francis”, and it is a faithfull reproduction of the content of the originals. However, instead of the quaint original typewritten (on an IBM golfball typewriter, Yvonne informs us) and photocopied booklets, the book is professionally typeset, printed and bound, with a full colour, original art cover by artist Wendy Barker.

Die Kers Verhaal

R59,00

Do You Speak Catholic?

Published on May 2023
R109,00
As with any major institution or organisation in the world, the Catholic Church uses words that are exclusive to it - call it “jargon”, if you will. These words can be confusing, not only to outsiders but even to “cradle Catholics”. The Church also assigns meanings to everyday words that are completely different to the norm. For example, did you know that there are five different meanings of the word “ordinary” in the Church’s lexicon, but none of them is, well, ordinary? This little book attempts to overcome that confusion by providing definitions, explanations and as many illustrations as possible for this array of special words. It is a sort of combination dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopaedia and pictionary, all in one small book. It makes no attempt to go into the liturgy or theology behind the words, except when that forms part of the definition or explanation, but it does try to illuminate, elucidate and even teach a little!“This book is a valuable resource for the candidates who are preparing to be received into the Church, for the catechumens, the sponsors and catechists who are involved in RCIA, for the altar servers, lay ministers — sacristans, proclaimers and communion givers who assist us to worship in truth and in spirit, and for those who are in initial stages of formation and training: postulants, novices and young seminarians” - Bishop Vincent Zungu OFM.

Recipes from Bechuanaland

R75,00
This book is the REPRODUCTION & REPRINT of an iconic and highly popular (in its day) recipe book, produced in the early 1960s by the Women’s Institute of Francistown in the then Bechuanaland Protectorate as a fundraiser for their charitable projects It was reproduced by Write-On Publishing at the suggestion of members of the Historical Francistown Facebook page – a closed Facebook group whose members have lived, worked in or went to school in Francistown. And that includes Write-On’s Frank Nunan! The book’s 144 pages are crammed full of an eclectic mix of good old “home cooking” recipes like “Chicken Casserole” to sophisticated Haute Cuisine dishes such as “Tourte de Pintade a la Hongrosie”, and going on to such home-grown specialities such as “Madila” (sour milk). it has an “On Safari” section, with game (venison) recipes for the three-legged pot, and a section on Cooking for Invalids and Convalescents, It also has a handy “hints” chapter with all sorts of household tips. This is one of my favourites: White suits: To disguise a last-minute dirty mark on a white drill suit eg. Queen’s Birthday Parade! Use white shoe cleaner. It also has a Chapter called “Be Your Own Drycleaner!” A must for Francistown (and Botswana) nostalgia buffs as well as current residents.
